Indian Times: Oklahoma Natives Prepare for Democratic Convention (Aug 16, 2008)
This week on Indian Times, KGOU?s Kurt Gwartney speaks with David Qualls at the Oklahoma Indian Gaming conference in Oklahoma City. Qualls is the chairman of the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association.

Host Susan Shannon speaks with Cinda Hughes, a member of the Kiowa Tribe and Cherokee Nation descendant. She is a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and one of six Native Americans on the Standing Committees. Hughes, pictured above, is shown when she was crowned Miss Wheelchair America 2004. She is also a legislative associate for the National Congress of American Indians, or NCAI.

The NCAI sponsored Native Vote 2008, which inspired two Pawnee/Kiowa sisters, Amy and Krystal Ceasar, to encourage natives to register to vote in their area. They did so with a float in the parade at the annual American Indian Exposition in Anadarko. For information on Native Vote 2008, email Amy and Krystal at swok_nativevote@yahoo.com.
