Indian Times: Native Americans at the Democratic Convention (Aug 29, 2008)
This week on Indian Times, Choctaw Nation member and Democratic delegate Debbie Hogue-Downing talks about a new feeling of inclusion for Native Americans at the Democratic Convention. The largest number of Native American delegates ever was present to watch Barack Obama make history, as the first African American nominee from a major political party in the US. University of Oklahoma journalism sophomore and member of the Muscogee Creek Nation Jamie Hughes worked as an online reporter for Reznet News. She spoke with host Susan Shannon on her way to catch her plane back to Oklahoma.

Last week the American Indian Cultural Center and Museum passed a construction milestone ? the completion of the Central Promontory Mound. It's situated to the southeast of the junction of I-35 and I-40 in Oklahoma City and represents Oklahoma?s location as the center of ancient trade routes in North America. We hear from Executive Director Gena Timberman and educator Blue Clark. The mound dedication ceremony ended with a prayer from George Tiger in his Muscogee Creek native tongue and a song from Muscogee Creek elder Felix Gouge.
