Indian Times: Oklahoma native educators honored by National Indian Education Association (Nov 03, 2008)
This week on Indian Times, the National Indian Education Association honors two Oklahoma native educators. Dr. Henrietta Mann, from the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma received the 2008 NIEA Lifetime Achievemant Award. Mann is currently the president of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal College in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Also honored was Lillian Williams, who is from the Skidi Pawnee,Chickasaw and Cherokee tribes of Oklahoma. She received the 2008 NIEA Elder of the Year Award. Host Susan Shannon speaks with Williams about her career in the Tulsa Public Schools.

Archeologists, ethnologists and linguists all study Native American culture and history, but in different ways. A workshop is being offered next Saturday by the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History to help interested people better understand how different scientists use their skills to see the big picture when it comes to Native American heritage. November is Native American Heritage Month. It’s a month to reflect on the significant contributions made by the first Americans to the establishment and growth of the United States. We’ll hear interesting facts on Native Americans during this month.
