Indian Times: Nebraska land deeded back to Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma (Nov 10, 2008)
This week on Indian Times, Pawnee ancestral lands in Nebraska are deeded back to the tribe. Pawnee repatriation coordinator Francis Morris talks about what the land will be used for – a burial ground.

In honor of American Indian Heritage Month, the Oklahoma City Downtown Library is scheduling a celebration for November 16th from 2-4pm. Librarian Sheldon Beach, who is from the Chickasaw Nation, gives us the rundown on the afternoon’s events.

One of the five famed American Indian ballerinas of Oklahoma, Rosella Hightower, (pictured above) passed away at her home in Cannes, France. Hightower was from the Choctaw Nation. Her career spanned decades. She began her own dance school in France, where she was considered a national treasure. In 1975 Hightower was named a “Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur”, the country’s premier honor. Ballerina Yvonne Chouteau Terekhov, a member of the Shawnee Nation, remembers her friend prima ballerina Rosella Hightower.
