Indian Times: American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Oklahoma holds awards gala (Dec 15, 2008)
This week on Indian Times, we focus on the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Oklahoma’s Awards Gala and Annual Meeting. It was held in Oklahoma City and it brought many notable Native American Oklahomans to town. The keynote speaker was Ross Swimmer, member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and a former chief. He is presently the Special Trustee for American Indians at the U.S. Department of the Interior. The five chapters of the AICCO gave out their yearly awards and then state awards were bestowed. A new award was created this year for “tribal leadership” and it was given to the Chief of the Osage, Jim Gray. We speak with him, and also with recording artist Arigon Starr, member of the Kickapoo Nation. She was there to see a relative receive an award. She talks about her one woman show and what is in her future.
