Indian Times: Northeastern State Univ in Tahlequah offers native language degree program (Dec 30, 2008) This week on Indian Times, a unique native language program at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah has its first graduate. KGOU’s Kurt Gwartney reports on the story of Greg Drowning Bear, first person to get a teaching degree in a native language. Cancer has become the new epidemic amongst Native Americans, second only to heart disease. Dr. Robert Mannel talks about his new program that uses nurse and patient “navigators” that streamlines help to Native American cancer patients. Often native patients are from rural areas, the navigators make sure no appointment is wasted due to records and/or x-rays that the patient could have brought with them.
