Indian Times: Is There Freedom of the Press in Indian Country? (Mar 23, 2009)
This week on Indian Times: tribal newspapers. Are they given all the freedoms that we have to come to expect from a newspaper? In the upcoming weeks we will explore that question as it applies to Oklahoma?s thirty-nine plus tribes. This week, the Osage Nation is in the spotlight. Its Executive versus Legislative branches?an ?interim? editorial board was appointed by the Chief and planned to meet with Congress, but it was cancelled. At their own expense the Board came to Osage County to meet with Osages anyway. We will speak with Denny McAuliffe and Tara Manthey , both Osage and both on the Board, about why they came and their hopes for the newspaper The Osage News. McAuliffe and Manthey are pictured above on either side of 3rd Board Member Teresa Trumbly Lamsam.
