This week on Indian Times, Cherokee author Patti Dickinson?s latest book is ?Coach Tommy Thompson and the Boys of Sequoyah.?It?s the unusual story of an Indian boarding school, the Cherokee Orphan Training School, which later became Sequoyah Boarding School. Thompson was literally dropped off as a boy & due to the family atmosphere provided by Superintendant Jack Brown, himself a Cherokee, Thompson succeeds in life, returns as a gifted football coach that brings a Class C school of Native American boys that came from ?the bottom rung? of life, to competing in state championships every year of his tenure. It all ends abruptly with the untimely death of Thompson.
