Indian Times: Walter Echohawk, famed native attorney returns to Oklahoma (Apr 16, 2010)
This week on Indian Times, we hear from Walter R Echohawk, Jr. He is an attorney and a member of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma. He was recently honored at the 5th Annual Native Justice Powwow sponsored by the University of Tulsa?s Native American Law Students Association for his 35 years with the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) spent defending the rights of Indian tribes, organizations and individuals nationwide. He has come home to Oklahoma to be near his Pawnee tribe and extended family. Currently, he serves ?of counsel? to the Tulsa law firm Crowe and Dunlevy, bringing his expertise in ?Indian Law.? Echohawk explains what that term means, and talks about defending the Native American Church's use of peyote to the Supreme Court.
