Lawmaker Introduces Measure to Address Gambling Addiction (Feb 08, 2006)
State House Republicans are unveiling a series of measures this session that would strengthen the role of faith-based organizations in tackling some of Oklahoma's social problems. Among those problems is controlling what critics characterize as an explosion of compulsive gambling since the creation of the state lottery, the installation of slot machines at racetracks and the legalization of blackjack and poker at tribal casinos. State Representative Thad Balkman was one of those who attended today’s press conference. He told KGOU recently that Oklahoma has so far failed to adequately address his concerns about problem gamblers (4 minutes).
