Groups Rally Against Illegal Immigration (Jan 10, 2006)
Members of the group IRON (Immigration Reform for Oklahoma Now) and a newly formed, Oklahoma chapter of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps rallied on the steps of the state capitol last weekend. They protested what they called lax enforcement of US immigration policies, and they demanded changes in state and federal laws to crack down on people who enter the country illegally. The Minutemen are embarking on a campaign that will include protesting at day-labor centers across the state and targeting employers who hire illegal aliens. Earlier in the day, the group was met by about fifty counter-protestors, who argued that immigration enforcement should be the responsibility of the border patrol rather than individual citizens. Guests include IRON spokesperson Carol Helm, counter-protestor Frano Cevallos, and Greg Thompson, State Director of the Minutemen. (4 minutes)
