OK House Passes Changes to State Workers Compensation System (Mar 04, 2005)
By vote of 59-37, the Oklahoma House of Representatives passed Speaker Todd Hiett's proposed changes to the state's workers compensation system. The measure would increase death and burial benefits for workers, encourage mediation between injured workers and their employers and limit attorney fees, purportedly saving businesses 100 million dollars a year. Opponents claim the bill does little to help injured workers or reduce medical costs. Governor Henry and Senate Democrats have introduced their own workers comp bill, which is still pending. Guests include State House Speaker Todd Hiett (R-Kellyville) and House Democratic Leader Jari Askins (D-Duncan)
