OK Primary System Goes Before US Supreme Court (Jan 25, 2005)
Scott Gurian speaks with Oklahoma Assistant Attorney General Wellon Poe and Jim Linger, Attorney for the state Libertarian Party. The two men just returned from Washington, where they argued the constitutionality of Oklahoma election law. At issue is whether political parties should be able to allow people registered in other political parties from voting in their primary elections. The Libertarians believe that parties-- and not elected officials-- should have the freedom to decide who can participate in their affairs, but the state says that wide-open primaries could de-stabilize both parties and elections (4 minutes).
