Managing Repeat Child Molesters: Punishment vs. Treatment (Apr 12, 2006) The House Corrections and Criminal Justice Committee gave its approval yesterday to a measure that would increase the penalties for child molestation. House Bill 1708 would mandate that first time molesters of children under 12 serve a minimum of 25 years in prison, and it would give juries the option of sentencing repeat child molesters to life in prison or the death penalty. KGOU examines various methods of dealing with the problem. Is treatment effective or is it a waste of money? And are there cases where the death penalty is the only practical way to keep repeat offenders out of society? Guests include State Senator Jay Paul Gumm (D-Durant), Sex Offender Therapist Dr. Rick Kishur and an anonymous, former child molester (approx. 7 minutes). ![]() « back ![]() |
