Lawyers for Death Row Inmate Claim He’s Innocent (Feb 15, 2005)
Depending upon whom you speak to, Jimmie Ray Slaughter is either a vicious, diabolical assassin or an innocent, unfortunate victim of a prosecutor desperate to land a conviction. He was sentenced to death in 1994 for the murders of Melody Wuertz, with whom he had an affair, and their 11-month-old daughter Jessica. Slaughter is scheduled to be executed next month, but today his attorneys are appearing before the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board, presenting evidence that they claim proves their client did not commit the crime with which he is charged. Guests include Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane and Attorneys Robert Jackson and Steve Presson.
