OSU’s Mark Snead on Post-GM Economic Outlook (Dec 05, 2005)
Many residents of Central Oklahoma reacted with fear to GM’s announcement last month that it will close its Oklahoma City Plant and eliminate 26-hundred manufacturing jobs in the state. Economist Mark Snead with OSU’s Spears School of Business has slashed his 2006 job growth forecast for Oklahoma City by 50 percent in the wake of the decision. While he notes that the news sounds bad, he believes the economy will easily recover over time, and that the plant closing is not likely to have drastic, long-term consequences (4:00).
