2-part Series on Public/ Private Partnerships in Weather Forecasting (Jun 10, 2005)
Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania has introduced in Congress the National Weather Services Duties Act of 2005. The bill would restrict the NWS from offering free weather forecasting services to the public to protect commerical weather companies from unfair competition. KGOU explores public-private weather forecasting partnerships in Norman, which has been described as the "Silicon Valley" of the weather information industry, and we pay a visit to the construction site of the new National Weather Center. Guests include Senator Rick Santorum; Jeremy Usher, President and CEO of Weathernews International; John Armstrong, Chairman of the Committee on Partnerships in Weather and Climate Services and John Snow, Program Director of the Oklahoma Weather Center (4:00).
