How Emergency Declarations Work (Dec 14, 2007)
As he toured storm-damaged neighborhood of Oklahoma City a couple of days ago, Governor Brad Henry assured state residents he’s doing everything he can to secure assistance from the federal government. In fact, earlier this week, President Bush did approve a record-setting 8th emergency declaration of the year for Oklahoma. So that got us wondering how the federal disaster aid system actually works. To offer a bit of an explanation, we’re joined on the line by Michelann Ooten, spokesperson for the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management.
