Askins Tops Fallin in Campaign Funds (Oct 26, 2010)

Midnight was the deadline for candidates for state office in Oklahoma to file campaign finance reports for the months leading up to next week's general election.

The records show Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jari Askins has loaned her campaign $350,000. That new loan puts Askins just ahead of Republican candidate Mary Fallin.

Askins is reporting her campaign raised a total of $3.9 million, including $1.5 million in the latest reporting period.

Fallin’s campaign reports raising a total of $3.8 million She brought in $1 million in the most recent report.

But more than $428,000 spent on a television ad campaign against Askins was paid for by the Republican Governor’s Association.

That money does not have to be reported by Fallin, because the group is considered independent from her campaign.
