Voter Registration Figures Trending GOP (Nov 01, 2010)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Democrats still outnumber Republicans in Oklahoma, but the latest voter registration statistics show a continued shift toward the GOP.

Statistics released Monday by the Oklahoma State Election Board show there has been a net increase of nearly 31,000 Republicans since January. Democrats during the same period saw a net increase of fewer than 1,000.

The net figure includes new voter registrations, changes in party affiliation and cancellations due to voters moving or dying.

Since January, the percentage of registered Democrats dropped from 49 percent to 48 percent, while the percentage of registered Republicans climbed to nearly 41 percent.

The number of registered independents climbed slightly to more than 11 percent of registered voters.
