OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Republicans in the Oklahoma Senate have met and elected Sen. Brian Bingman of Sapulpa as president pro tem-designate for the coming legislative session.

Bingman was chosen Tuesday to succeed Sen. Glenn Coffee as Senate leader. Coffee was prevented from running for re-election by term limits.

Bingman will not become president pro tem until the Senate organizes on Jan. 4 and votes on its leadership. Republicans will hold a 32-16 majority in the Senate.

Bingman named Sen. Mike Schulz of Altus as floor leader. The remainder of the Senate Republican leadership will be elected Nov. 16.
