Coburn Clears Way for Okla. US Marshal Nominee (Nov 11, 2010)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Sen. Tom Coburn has cleared the way for an Oklahoma Department of Public Safety employee to be approved as U.S. marshal for the western district of Oklahoma.

The Oklahoman reported that Coburn, R-Okla., had been withholding approval because of concerns about Charles Weeks' finances. Coburn says he had a "good conversation" with Weeks and hoped he would be confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee and the full Senate before the end of the year.

President Barack Obama nominated Weeks, who has worked for the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety since 1985, on June 9.

On a financial disclosure form, Weeks listed debt that included nearly $23,000 in delinquent taxes.

He has said the tax liability stemmed from his wife's first marriage, and that they are paying it down.
