Fallin Names Hudecki State Secretary of Education (Nov 23, 2010)

Governor-elect Mary Fallin introduced the newest member of her cabinet today, naming Phyllis Hudecki secretary of education and calling her new education team a “trifecta” of leadership.

Fallin, Hudecki and state Superintendent-elect Janet Barresi all three agree their agenda is one of education reform. And while Governor-elect Fallin would not say they have a mandate to transform public schools in the state, she said Oklahomans want results.

“We mentioned the common goal of getting more money into the classroom,” Fallin said. “We’re looking at some of our administrative costs and how we can create more efficiency within administrative costs.”

Fallin said an education transition team will soon start working out the details of those changes, including incentives for schools that might want to consolidate or share resources.

Barresi, who has called for an audit of the state Department of Education, said she wants to develop a culture of efficiency, effectiveness and service to school districts within the department.
