UPDATE: Wildfire Started by Fireplace Ashes (Nov 30, 2010)

McLOUD, Okla. (AP) — Fire officials say they believe a large fire in the Oklahoma City area started when someone dumped ash from a fireplace into a yard.

The fire overtook a one-acre dump that contained old tires and other items, sending thick, black smoke skyward.

McLoud Fire Chief James Nelson says an unoccupied mobile home was destroyed but crews kept other nearby structures from burning.
