Ex-Choctaw Employee Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement (Dec 10, 2010)

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) - A former employee of Choctaw Nation Health Care Services has pleaded guilty to charges of embezzlement and theft from an Indian tribal organization.

U.S. Attorney Mark Green says 50-year-old Shirley Lynn Stout of Talihina entered the plea in federal court in Muskogee and could face up to five years in prison and fines of up to $250,000. U.S. Magistrate Judge Kimberly West ordered a presentence report and Stout remains free on bond pending her sentencing.

Stout was a purchasing officer for Choctaw Nation Health Care Services. Prosecutors say from November 2009 until this past August, she used her government-issued credit card to purchase personal items. Prosecutors say Stout embezzled almost $31,000.
