Fallin to Retain Deering as Okla. Adjutant General (Dec 10, 2010)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Gov.-elect Mary Fallin said she will retain Maj. Gen. Myles Deering as adjutant general of the Oklahoma National Guard.

Fallin said Friday that Deering is an accomplished military leader who has commanded soldiers at every level, from platoon to brigade.

Deering has had a 39-year military career. In 2005, he led 2,500 Oklahoma National Guard troops during Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in New Orleans. He also commanded troops for the Multi-National Force in Iraq in 2008.

Deering served as director of manpower and personnel at the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C. before being named adjutant general by Gov. Brad Henry in 2009.

Deering has been awarded many military honors including the Bronze Star Medal, the Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and Legion of Merit.
