Oklahoma City Public Schools Considering Year-round Classes (Dec 10, 2010) OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The state's largest school district is considering a move to year-round classes. The Oklahoma City school board will vote Monday on a proposal to move to a "continuous learning calendar," which already is being used at seven schools in the 40,000-student district. The Oklahoman reports that under the plan, the traditional summer break would be reduced by a month and the time would be used to create a two-week break in October and extend current winter and spring breaks. Superintendent Karl Springer has advocated a move by the district to longer school days and the continuous learning calendar during his two-year tenure with the district. Pam Calvert, the council president of the district's Parent teacher Student Association, calls the proposal "a step forward" for the district. « back |
