Sens. Inhofe, Coburn Split on Federal Tax Plan (Dec 14, 2010)

The number two Democrat in the U-S Senate says he believes the overwhelming margin by which the Senate advanced legislation maintaining Bush era tax cuts means the legislation finally will clear Congress, likely by Christmas.

Oklahoma’s two U-S Senators split their vote on the measure. Senator Jim Inhofe voted to move the bill forward yesterday, while Senator Tom Coburn opposed it. A spokesman for Coburn told the Oklahoman newspaper he was concerned about giveaways to special interest groups and the affect the legislation will have on the federal deficit.

Assistant Democratic Leader Dick Durbin says the 83-15 tally by which the measure cleared a major procedural vote will also help facilitate its passage in the House.
