Oklahoma Makes 8 of 10 in Public Health Preparedness (Dec 15, 2010)

A national report says Oklahoma achieved 8 of 10 indicators for being ready for a health emergency.

The eighth annual “Ready or Not?” report shows cuts in funding for public health and the ability to respond to an incident were the two areas where the state did not receive points.

The study is sponsored by the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The focus of this year’s report was how prepared states are to protect the public from threats of disease, disasters and bioterrorism.

The sponsors of the report say decades of gains in handling health emergencies are at risk due to severe public health budget cuts by federal, state and local governments.
