Wintry Precipitation Could Hurt Thursday Morning Drive (Jan 18, 2011)

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say the Thursday morning commute has the potential to be hazardous.

The weather service shows the possibility for an icy mix of precipitation in the metro Wednesday night.

Areas of snow and sleet are expected to peak in the early morning hours Thursday across the northern half of Oklahoma, with snow and sleet to the south and east of the metro.

The area forecast discussion says the northern and eastern sides of Oklahoma City could see 1-to-3 inches of snowfall. But forecasters also say they wouldn’t be surprised to see bands of heavier snow.

Another hazard on Thursday will be strong north winds gusting to more than 30 miles per hour.
