AG Tells School Disticts to Obey Scholarship Law (Jan 19, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — New Attorney General Scott Pruitt is ordering a handful of Tulsa-area school districts to obey a new law directing them to pay for private school tuition for special education students.

The Union, Jenks and Broken Arrow districts have declined to obey the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship law, claiming it is unconstitutional.

Pruitt says in a letter to the superintendents of the three districts that unless they reverse their position on the law by Monday, he will take legal action against them.

A Union spokeswoman says that district's superintendent is taking the letter "under advisement" and a Jenks spokeswoman says the district won't comment until after its board holds a special meeting.

A messages with the Broken Arrow district wasn't immediately returned.
