OU Receives Pair of $2 Million Gifts (Jan 26, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The University of Oklahoma has received a pair of $2 million gifts, one for a new International Studies college and another to create a water institute.

OU President David Boren announced the gifts Wednesday during a meeting of university regents.

Francis and Kathleen Rooney of Tulsa are giving $2 million to start OU's $14 million fundraising campaign for its new College of International Studies, the creation of which regents approved Wednesday. Boren says the gift will be used to renovate OU's facility in Arezzo, Italy.

The $2 million gift from Corix Utilities Inc., will be used to establish the Corix Institute for Water and Sustainability, which will include a new Oklahoma Water Survey. The Water Survey will be patterned after the Oklahoma Geological Survey, which also is housed at OU.
