House Speaker to Form Panel to Investigate Terrill (Jan 28, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Republican House Speaker Kris Steele says he will form a special committee to investigate Republican state Rep. Randy Terrill, who has been charged with felony bribery.

Steele said Friday the eight-member committee will be bipartisan and will determine if Terrill misused or abused his office.

Terrill is charged with felony bribery in Oklahoma County for what prosecutors say was an offer to provide former Democratic state Sen. Debbe Leftwich an $80,000-per-year state job in exchange for her not seeking re-election. Leftwich of Oklahoma City is charged with soliciting or accepting a bribe.

Both Terrill and Leftwich deny the allegations. Terrill says he welcomes the House investigation.

Steele says he expects to name members of the committee during the first week of legislative session - which begins Feb. 7.
