Tulsans Trapped by Snow 4 Days After Storm (Feb 04, 2011)

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Four days after the largest snowstorm in Tulsa history, residents remain trapped in their homes. Many say they are running low on milk, bread and other basics.

While homeowners have shoveled their driveways, they say they can't get out of their neighborhoods because local roads remain packed with snow and ice.

Those who can walk to stores have stripped the shelves, and managers say no more food or supplies will arrive until roads are cleared.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett says the city is doing the best it can after an unprecedented, 14-inch snowfall. Plows are working in neighborhoods for the first time. Usually, they just clear main streets. Bartlett also ordered the fire department to run its engines down some streets to pack the snow down so cars don't get stuck.
