OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Emergency officials in Oklahoma are returning to normal operations after a powerful winter storm exited the state.

Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Michelann Ooten said Oklahoma's emergency operations center underneath the state Capitol complex will return to regular hours at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The center brings together officials from several different state and federal agencies to coordinate emergency response to disasters. Ooten says the staff will still maintain 24-hour contact with emergency managers in the areas hardest hit by the storm.

The center was activated Tuesday when a powerful winter storm pounded the state, dumping as much as two feet of snow in some parts of northeast Oklahoma.

Ooten says the number of requests for assistance has decreased, and warmer weather is on its way.
