SUV Involved in Fatal Wreck to be Removed (Feb 11, 2011)

MIAMI, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says it will try this weekend to remove a sport utility vehicle that was involved in a fatal accident from the Spring River.

Troopers say they had originally wanted to pull the SUV out of the icy water on Friday, but because of continued hazardous road conditions, the decision was made to postpone the effort until about 10 a.m. Saturday.

Three people died when the vehicle plunged into the river off a Will Rogers Turnpike bridge Feb. 3. Carthage, Mo., residents Leonor Alcano, Irma Garcia and Douglas Monzon died and five others were injured.

All eight were headed to work at a mushroom farm near Miami when the accident occurred a day after a blizzard pounded central and northeastern Oklahoma with heavy snow.
