Okla Speaker Taps Panel to Probe Lawmaker (Feb 14, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma House Speaker Kris Steele has appointed eight House members to investigate state Rep. Randy Terrill, who has been charged with felony bribery.

Steele said Monday that four Democrats and four Republicans would serve on the committee and said Republican Rep. Fred Jordan will be chairman. Jordan is a former judge advocate in the U.S. Marine Corps and now chairs the House Judiciary Committee.

The committee could recommend no action against Terrill, recommend he be censured or that the House begin steps to remove him from office.

Terrill is charged with felony bribery in what prosecutors say was a scheme to secure a state job for then-Sen. Debbe Leftwich in exchange for Leftwich not running for re-election. Leftwich is also charged.

Both deny wrongdoing and Terrill says he welcomes the investigation.
