New State Supreme Court Justice Sworn In (Feb 16, 2011)

Oklahoma’s newest justice on the state Supreme Court was sworn in Tuesday afternoon.

Judge Noma Gurich confirms she took the oath of office during an informal ceremony at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Oklahoma County District Judge Jerry Bass conducted the swearing at the ceremony attended by friends and family of the new justice. A formal swearing in is expected in the next few weeks.

A state Supreme Court decision yesterday affirmed Governor Brad Henry’s appointment of Gurich to Oklahoma’s high court.

The court rejected a challenge to the state’s Judicial Nominating Commission, which sends nominations to the governor to fill judicial vacancies.
