Bill Would Restrict Uninsured Motorist Lawsuits (Feb 23, 2011) Uninsured drivers involved in vehicle accidents would have their options for legal recourse restricted under legislation approved in the state House Insurance Committee yesterday. House Bill 1045 by state Rep. George Faught would prohibit uninsured drivers from filing lawsuits seeking what he calls vague pain and suffering damages after a wreck. Faught’s bill does contain exemptions if the uninsured driver is hit by someone who is drunk or if the uninsured motorist is a passenger in the crash. The lawmaker says his proposal should increase the incentives for drivers to have liability insurance. « back |
