Trial Delayed for 2 Charged in Pharmacy Shooting (Mar 07, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A motion to reinstate a judge by attorneys representing a pharmacist accused in the death of a 16-year-old would-be robber has been denied.

Oklahoma County District Judge Ray Elliott rejected the request Monday and scheduled a May 16 trial for Jerome Ersland, whose lawyers wanted District Judge Tammy Bass-LeSure reinstated.

Prosecutors charged Ersland with first-degree murder for the 2009 death of Antwun Parker, who along with another teen tried to rob a south Oklahoma City pharmacy where Ersland works. Ersland says he shot the unarmed teen in self-defense, but prosecutors say he went too far when he shot Parker five more times after an initial gunshot wound to the head left Parker unconscious.

Meanwhile, jury selection for defendants Anthony Morrison and Emanuel Mitchell was postponed until April 18.
