Eastern Okla. School District to Close in June (Mar 24, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The state Board of Education has voted to remove accreditation for Boynton-Moton Public Schools starting June 30.

After telling school officials they failed students, board members voted unanimously during its monthly meeting to close the school and move the students.

Where the 47 students end up is in question. The board could vote to annex the school with nearby Haskell or Midway.

Audits by the Muskogee County District Attorney's Office and the Department of Education showed problems with employee contracts, issues with state and federal child nutrition regulations and low student proficiency.

Board members also questioned Superintendent Shelbie Williams' salary increase from $36,000 last year to $90,000 this year.

The school district has been plagued with financial and student assessment problems for years.
