Panel Approves Governor's Nominees (Mar 28, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A Senate committee has approved Gov. Mary Fallin's selection of former state Sen. Glenn Coffee as Oklahoma's secretary of state.

The Senate General Government unanimously approved the executive nomination on Monday. The committee voted separately to approve Coffee as Fallin's cabinet secretary of state. The former Republican leader of the Senate, Coffee is expected to be Fallin's chief negotiator with legislative leaders on the state budget and policy issues. Coffee's nomination still must be approved by the full Senate.

Other executive nominations approved by the committee were Oscar Jackson, administrator of the office of personnel management, and Albert Ashwood, director of the Department of Civil Emergency Management. Jackson also was nominated to serve as Fallin's cabinet secretary of human resources.
