Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Honored (Mar 30, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper based in southern Oklahoma has been named "Trooper of the Year" for helping rescue people in Lake Texoma last year.

Trooper Greg Williams, who works with OHP's Lake Patrol, was honored during a ceremony in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, Williams was on routine patrol at the lake on June 26 when he saw a man thrashing about in the water about 100 yards from the shoreline. Williams and two bystanders pulled the man out of the water and into the boat.

On July 18, Williams rescued six people on the Texas side of Lake Texoma who had gone into the water after the boat on which they riding caught fire.
