Recovery Begins After Tornado in Small Okla Town (Apr 15, 2011) TUSHKA, Okla. (AP) — Residents of this tiny southeastern Oklahoma town are combing through the splintered remains of their homes after a powerful nighttime tornado rumbled through the community, leaving two people dead, dozens injured and the town's one school a pile of rubble and twisted metal. The tornado was spawned by a series of destructive storms that began Thursday in Oklahoma and pushed into Arkansas, where seven more people were killed. Weather officials say at least five tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma, four of those in southeast Oklahoma and a fifth in central Oklahoma near the town of Stroud. Emergency management officials and local relief organizations on Friday helped weary residents in the town assess the damage and begin the process of cleaning up debris-strewn streets and neighborhoods. « back |
