Fallin Requests Storm Aid for Atoka County (Apr 29, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Gov. Mary Fallin is requesting federal assistance for storm-battered Atoka County in southeast Oklahoma where initial damage estimates show more than $10 million in uninsured losses.

Fallin submitted the request Friday to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. If approved, the funds would help local towns, the county and utilities with infrastructure repairs and other storm-related costs.

Two people were killed when a tornado tore through the town of Tushka in Atoka County on April 14.

Fallin says additional counties could be added to the request as damage estimates are calculated.

The federal government already has approved individual assistance for damages to homes and businesses.
