Governor Signs Campaign Finance Legislation (May 05, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Gov. Mary Fallin has signed legislation into law that its author says will help the public learn the identities of campaign donors.

The bill by Rep. Sean Roberts of Hominy requires major candidates to report their campaign contributions and expenditures electronically with the Ethics Commission and have it posted online.

The law applies to all candidates for state office as well as candidates for municipal and county offices in towns and counties with populations greater than 250,000.

Roberts says candidates for many municipal and county positions have to raise thousands of dollars and can receive up to $5,000 from a single contributor. He says his bill will let citizens know who is funding those campaigns.

The House passed the bill 89-5 and the Senate cleared it 45-0.
