State House Redraws Legislative Boundaries (May 05, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma House has reached a tentative agreement on how it will redraw the state's 101 House districts and is expected to release a map showing the proposed new lines on Friday.

House Speaker Kris Steele said Thursday he expects the proposed new map to be posted on the House website, and that the new lines will be voted upon by members next week.

The vice-chairman of the Senate Redistricting Committee, Sen. Bryce Marlatt, R-Woodward, says he expects the proposed Senate map will be unveiled early next week.

Oklahoma is required to redraw legislative and congressional district lines every 10 years to reflect population changes determined by the U.S. Census Bureau. The 2000 Census recorded Oklahoma's population at 3.45 million. In 2010, it was 3.75 million.
