OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Mary Fallin has signed a bill designed to reduce the number of abortions performed in Oklahoma by further restricting the use of the abortion pill.

Fallin on Wednesday signed a measure that requires doctors who prescribe the pill, previously known as RU-486, to strictly follow guidelines and protocol authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The bill also requires doctors to examine the woman, document certain medical conditions and schedule a follow-up appointment.

Opponents argue lawmakers have no business telling doctors how to treat their patients.

Fallin already has signed bills that make it a felony for doctors to perform an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy and prohibit standard health insurance policies from including coverage of elective abortions.
