UPDATE: 54 Okla. Counties Added to Disaster Declaration (May 25, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY - Gov. Mary Fallin declared a state of emergency Wednesday morning for 54 more Oklahoma counties affected by Tuesday's oubreak of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.

The counties included in the declaration are: Adair, Alfalfa, Atoka, Blaine, Bryan, Caddo, Canadian, Carter, Cherokee, Choctaw, Cleveland, Coal, Comanche, Cotton, Craig, Creek, Custer, Delaware, Dewey, Garfield, Garvin, Grady, Grant, Haskell, Hughes, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnston, Kay, Kingfisher, Kiowa, Latimer, LeFlore, Lincoln, Logan, Love, Major, Marshall, Mayes, McClain, McCurtain, McIntosh, Murray, Muskogee, Noble, Nowata, Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Okmulgee, Osage, Ottawa, Pawnee, Payne, Pittsburg, Pontotoc, Pottawatomie, Pushmataha, Rogers, Seminole, Sequoyah, Stephens, Tillman, Tulsa, Wagoner, Washington, Washita, Woods and Woodward.

Fallin announced a separate declaration Tuesday for 14 counties affected by the Sunday night storms that pushed northeast into Missouri, spawning a massive tornado that rumbled through Joplin and killed at least 122 people.

The executive order is the first step toward asking for federal assistance and authorizes state agencies to make emergency purchases to bring storm aid into affected areas.
