Oklahoma Forestry Services Employee Charged in Fires (Jun 02, 2011)

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma Forestry Services employee is facing 112 felony counts of arson and arson-related crimes.

Mike Adam Malenski is charged in Cherokee County District Court with setting dozens of wildfires, many at the Cherokee Wildlife Management Area. His attorney, Donn Baker of Tahlequah, didn't immediately return a message left Thursday morning.

Col. Mike Grimes, the director of the Agriculture Department's investigative services, tells the Muskogee Phoenix that agency's probe into the alleged serial arsons began about six months ago. Grimes says a tracking device was attached to Malenski's vehicle and information was compared to fire sites.

The 38-year-old Malenski is charged with 41 counts of third-degree arson, 15 counts of fourth-degree arson and 56 counts of endangering or causing personal injury to human life during the commission of a felony.
